Either competing or just spectating the triathletes at the port of Syros and the streets of Ermoupolis, one thing is for sure, that your will be cheered up by the race commentator, Jason “Jay” Luke.
The “bad boy of Bondi Beach” will be present at Syros for the simultaneous commentating of the race in English. Spiritual, humorous and well-experienced upon triathlon, Jay himself has finished in 2 World Championships of Ironman and in many triathlon races, half-marathons and marathons all over the world.
After more than 4 years, 70+ events and thousands of athlete finishes, today, Jay Luke is the Lead Commentator for the second largest multi-sport event management company in Australia, a member of the UK Ironman Announcing Team and ‘The Voice’ of Australia’s premier functional fitness festival, The Bay Games.
For his appearance in Syros and Syrathlon, Jay told us: “I couldn’t be more excited to be on the beautiful island of Syros in Greece to support all of these incredible athletes in the legendary Syrathlon! It is an honour and a privilege for me to welcome them all home as they cross the finish line and realize their athletic dreams”.
Commentating at events in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres has provided unprecedented experience across a broad range of branded events. In addition to Ironman in United Kingdom these include the Oceania Cup, Xterra, ITU qualifiers, National Championships and numerous run specific competitions.
As is the nature of the role, Jay Luke’s expertise extends far beyond the finish line. Included within his Ironman contract, he commonly assists with race briefings, award ceremonies and assumes responsibility for running key sub-events such as Iron kids across the UK.
Jay Luke’s passion for sport and helping other athletes succeed is apparent for every audience. His meticulous planning and preparation in the lead up to any event shines through when he helps breathe life into it by knowing competitor’s names, their stories, their sponsors and the energy their spectators can make available.
In addition to his professional approach to the technical aspects of his commentating, many people around the world have grown to love his easy humour, quick wit and fun-loving personality. All of this is complimented with Jay Luke’s second love, the magic of music.
Sure thing is that SYRATHLON 2019 could not do differently but have an exceptional presenter, who will join the equally unique native presenter of the event Leftheris Plakidas and together will keep the temperature high with their voices!
